Region One Board Approves Ian A. Strever as New Principal of Housatonic Valley Regional High School

Falls Village, CT (April 13, 2018) - After serving as Assistant Principal at Housatonic Valley Regional High School for more than seven years, Mr. Ian Strever has been selected to become Principal of Housatonic Valley Regional High School. The position will be vacated by Dr. Jose Martinez at the end of this school year.

A selection process established by the Region One Board included approval from teachers, administrators and board members.

“The Board of Education would like to thank the teachers who represented the High School staff for being part of the process to find a new principal”, said Bob Whelan, Region One Board Chair. “Our Board members believe that Ian Strever’s strong commitment to every student, the continuity of leadership, the dedication to the growth of the school community, and his thoughtful and contemporary vision make him the committee's unanimous choice to be our next principal. Ian has made it clear that he will continue to ensure a positive culture for staff and students by building trust through empowering and supporting everyone in the school.”

The committee was especially impressed with Strever’s wealth of talent and professional knowledge, as evident by his seven years at HVRHS as Assistant Principal.  “I want to begin my new role working alongside the Leadership Team and Department Heads to identify issues and implement effective solutions that are in the best interest of student learning”, said Strever.

“Ian will work in tandem with the staff to continue the initiatives, ensuring that the school builds upon its strengths. He has a deep understanding of research-based programs designed to promote increased student learning. Ian knows and cares about the students and works with the staff to create a positive school culture. He has also helped to establish several community partnerships that have benefitted our school”, said Dr. Pam Vogel, Superintendent of Region One Schools.

Strever earned his Sixth Year Degree in Educational Leadership in May of 2008 from the University of Bridgeport, his M.A. Degree in English from Western Connecticut State University in May of 2005, and his B.A. Degree in English/Secondary Education from Albright College in May of 1996. He lives in Salisbury.

Strever’s contract has yet to be negotiated. He will begin his role as HVRHS Principal at the beginning of the new school year on July 1, 2018.
