Region One Announces A New Assistant Superintendent Team

Falls Village, Connecticut (June 8, 2020) - The Region One Board of Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Scott Fellows and Ms. Jill Pace as the team to fill the Interim Assistant Superintendent position for .6 of their time, with .4 of their time devoted to responsibilities in their respective schools.

The Assistant Superintendent Search Committee, composed of all members of the Region One Board of Education and the All Board Chairs Committee along with incoming Interim Superintendent Lisa Carter, determined that it was best to consider internal qualified candidates who could leverage understanding of the Region One school system and therefore be immediately effective in continuing curriculum and professional learning support. The teaming of Dr. Fellows and Ms. Pace will be effective in serving all grades throughout the Region during a time that will continue to present complex challenges to all educators. Dr. Fellows will support the curriculum and professional learning needs for Housatonic Valley Regional High School as well as for the Pre-K -12 math teachers, and Ms. Pace will do the same for the six Region One Pre-K-8 schools.

Scott Fellows has worked as a math teacher at Housatonic Valley Regional High School for 31 years, 25 of which were spent as Chair of the Mathematics Department.  In addition, he has been an adjunct instructor at The University of Hartford, teaching courses in teacher supervision and evaluation, empowerment of professional staff, human and fiscal resource management, and quantitative research.

He is acting as co-chair of the Assessment and Grading Practices Task Group, has served as a teacher evaluator, TEAM mentor (in both the high school and a middle school), scheduling coordinator, and graduation coordinator.

Dr. Fellows holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics Education from The University of Connecticut, a Masters Degree in Liberal Studies with a concentration in math from Wesleyan University, a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from Central Connecticut State University, and a Doctor of Education degree from The University of Hartford.

Describing this new opportunity in Region 1, Dr. Fellows said, “I am excited to join the Central Office Staff and to work with the outstanding teachers in Region 1, many of whom I have known and worked for years, to carefully implement initiatives that will allow our students to learn at the highest levels and to demonstrate that learning in a variety of ways.”

Jill Pace is currently the Library Media Specialist (LMS) at Sharon Center School and also served as Dean of Students at Batcheller Elementary School in Winchester, Connecticut.  During her fourteen years at Sharon she has also taught kindergarten and grades four, five, and six. In addition to her classroom responsibilities and directing the drama club, Jill serves as assistant to the principal and is an active member of the school’s leadership team. She is an instructional coach, a complementary evaluator, and a TEAM mentor. Regionally, Jill serves on the Data PLC (Professional Learning Community). She also helped write the middle school ELA curriculum, and worked with the regional LMS team to develop a shared digital library for our middle school students that will launch in Fall 2020.

Jill is from Litchfield, where she lives with her husband, Mike, and their two children, Audra (6) and Ethan (4), who are her greatest teachers. She recently completed the coursework to earn her LMS endorsement. She earned her sixth year in Educational Leadership at Central Connecticut State University, and also earned a Master of Arts from the Literacy Specialist Program at Teachers College, Columbia University.

Jill had these words to say, “I am honored to be asked to serve Region One, particularly at this moment in time. I have been fortunate to spend the majority of my career with the amazing staff at Sharon Center School, whose collaborative spirit and deep commitment to students epitomize the spirit of the Region One community. I am excited to be working with the top-notch administrative and central office team, and deeply appreciate this opportunity to support Region One."

Dr. Fellows and Ms. Pace will begin their roles as Interim Assistant Superintendent at the beginning of the new school year on July 1, 2020.
