About Our Assistant Superintendent

In February of 2017, the All Board Chairs (ABC) Committee announced Mrs. Lisa Carter as Assistant Superintendent of Region One to begin her responsibilities on July1, 2017.

Mrs. Carter has been an educator in Region One for more than 14 years, serving as Principal of Salisbury Central School since 2011. She began her education career as a Social Studies teacher at Housatonic Valley Regional High School, where, in addition to being an exceptional teacher, she collaborated with her colleagues to initiate the relationship with the Shandong Experimental School in Jinan, China and the Civic Life Project, a program that teaches civics to students through the production of documentary films.

Prior to teaching, Carter worked for the U.S. State Department, where she helped to write the curriculum to teach Foreign Service Officers how to speak Mandarin Chinese. She then worked for Union Oil Company of California, where she focused on the development of programs and relationships in China. She also served as a general management consultant with the Hay Group, specializing in organizational effectiveness and management succession planning.

Ms. Carter holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mandarin Chinese and Business from Georgetown University, a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California, and a second Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from Central Connecticut State University.

One colleague wrote, “Lisa is an exceptional administrator who brings to the job not only an impressive experiential background, but also an inspiring intellect. She is organized, resourceful and extremely dedicated to the region and her work with the teachers, students and families reflects this dedication.” Region 1 Board of Education chair Andrea Downs called Carter “a beloved and highly effective leader and educator.” Region 1 Board of Education member Jonathan Moore said: “Lisa impressed the committee with her passion for engaging children and her commitment to energizing stakeholders in collaboration.”

Mrs. Carter looks forward to collaborating with Region One teachers in the areas of curriculum writing, instruction, assessment and professional development. Recognizing that excellent teachers are the most important factor in helping students achieve their learning goals; Mrs. Carter will work to ensure that all of the Region One schools have the tools, training and staff to ensure the success of every student based on individual needs. She remains committed to the success of everyone – students, staff and families and is proud to be a member of the Region One team.
